Iran – The well-known Iranian lawyer and defender of human rights NASRIN SOTOUDEH has been summoned before the court and arrested; since that time she stays in the Evin prison of Tehran. As to the knowledge of the Human Rights International (HRI) Nasrin Sotoudeh is a peaceful prisoners of conscience who helps for many years especially victims of those people who violate human rights. She is focused particularly on those human right defenders who are lawfully or unlawfully imprisoned or restricted in the exercise of these rights by the Iranian Government because of their engagement for recognition of the fundamental human rights. Furthermore, she became known as a defender of impecunious minors who were tormented and sentenced to death. In addition, she supported women who took part in the petition "One Million Signatures Campaign” which voices against the women discriminating Iranian laws, the unilateral and illegal privileges of the Iranian men regarding divorce, marriage law and child custody.
We honored Nasrin Sotoudeh for her engagement and courage with the “HRI Prize for Human Rights” in December 2008 in Italy.
Human Rights International (HRI) directs an urgent appeal to the general public and to all friends of the human rights to agitate themselves for the immediate release of Nasrin Sotoudeh.
